Diary of a Feingold Mom
Things take a change at the end of this page, so don't think this page is too boring...it gets better lol.
(Continuing story)
Jan-
March 2003:
Okay, I had made my decision and I was going for it full steam. I
didn't want to throw out the good food I had just bought, so I asked my grocer
if I could return much of it, and why I needed to do so. "We have
food allergies and can't eat anything with tomatoes or apples etc etc, and, and,
and". And the poor man thought I was crazy! But I remembered what
Jane Hersey had told me in our conversation, and written in her book, "You are
the best mom, you have tried everything else and are still willing to go further
to do what it takes for your family". Yes, I was. This diary is
ongoing and will be added to as we learn more.
April 2003:
We are relocating our business this week. Of course working on the
internet as an author and site owner gives me the opportunity to live anywhere.
We are going to North US to live close to my mother. I feel that (as I am
almost 50) that it is time I moved home to help her, be with her, get closer to
her. This will add the benefits of having a grandmother for my children,
but will also aid the fact that she may feed them wrong foods. This would
not be that she doesn't eat healthy, because she always has. It will
simply be that she does not know about Feingold and the underlying problems that
this program deals with.
We also have to deal with the trip and food along the way. We have decided
on Wendy's and their approved foods, the homemade food grill that we find that
will cook "for us", and possibly a grocery store or two. We will have Cracker
Jacks and other approved snacks, lots of water, and of course a soak in the hot
tub at the hotel we stay at half way. :)
May 2003:
Our journey, the lack of sleep, our lack of schedules, and being in a new area
all seem to be taking it's toll on us. We have had some set backs.
Not so much with our diet but with the learned behavior from years past, while
we were eating wrong. My sweet son has now spent 30 hours in a Boot Camp.
It was hopefully going to be the best Mother's Day I would ever have. I
might just have "my boy" back. All went well for about four or five
days, then the blowout came. Another two weeks went by and an even worse
one occurred! This time the Sheriff was again called to contain him.
He was not learning that his actions are what determined his consequences.
For some reason there seems to be a build up, an explosion, then a rest period
for behavior troubles with children, mine included. We are praying about
it, and hope to find the answer in what ever he may be exposed to at those
times. Whether it be in his diet or in his surroundings.
May 15th:
Friday, amongst all my turmoil and added prayers, I had asked if anyone in my
group was utilizing any diet or behavioral problems. I had mentioned the
Feingold Program we are using. I didn't see any answer so thought I would share
with them what we are living with. This page is not there for you to buy from
(although I won't stop you lol), but to share with you to help you understand
us.
You see, my sweet little boy is just that! Big heart, loving spirit (most of the
time) and will give you the shirt off his back, or any toy to make you happy. So
is my daughter. However, he has had behavioral problems (come and goes), slight
learning disabilities, and in counseling for anger management-to no avail. The
last straw was last weekend when I first met you all. I had to take him to that
30 hour boot camp in Lawrenceburg.
We had found out in February that it is all diet related. That dyes, colorings,
artificials and many natural foods contain the antagonizer to his actions. We
all have a heavy metal buildup in our bodies from living in our unhealthy world.
Now that food is being approved with ONLY these ingredients disguised as real
food and food equivalencies, we are seeing more and more Ritalin, Adoral,
ADHD/ADD/PPD/ODD and many more of these labels.
Have you seen the rise in Alzheimer's? Remember back when we heard something
about it having to do with cans or heavy metals...well what is when the
Government tried to suppress the facts and make us forget we heard it. You see,
they would have lost billions had we taken our families off it back then. Well
all these children are future Alzheimer's candidates.
Go look at the Pop Tarts, cereals, ice creams; any baked product we buy, no
matter how "natural, wholesome, and real" they claimed to be, they still
contained Vanillin. Vanillin is thought to be Vanilla. It is not! It is a by
product from a paper mill. It is mixed with "food stuff's" in order to get the
FDA approval!
You know the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the Dr. away"? Apples and many
other foods contain Salicylates. This is the exact chemical base used to make
aspirin and their products. If the Doctors are telling us to do this once a day,
and feed our kids lots of apples, we do it out of ignorance or behavioral
patterns set up in our childhood. We don't question that we are doing what is
right for our children. A "Grandma did, Mom did it to me and I am still alive"
mentality.
After fighting the label ADHD they were trying to place on my son, and watching
my granddaughter being put onto Ritalin and like substitutes for years, I
succumbed to it when his behavior, inability to learn things, lack of attention
span, anger and out of control actions, became a norm in our lives. I knew he
would not become a healthy adult unless I stopped being his friend, and became
his mother. I had to start first with my job.
Mind you this took three years of prayer, so I know the big picture is slowly
being revealed to us, but my son is starting to get better. The diet is much
better, as we see his reactions to certain foods, we stick with it, but we are
still dealing with behavior problems learned with the not approved diet from
years past. This is the heavy metal build ups in his body tissue. The exact ones
that bring on our (as adults especially) moods swings, headaches, irritability,
restlessness and more. This gets worse as we age, such as body twitches (usually
beginning in the eye), Heart disease, and more.
June 5th:
We joined our new homeschool group a few weeks ago. Beginning to make new
friends and telling them about our regimen and way of life, they were gaining a
new understanding about their own hyperactive children. All was going
well, when one day we went to another families house to compare new curriculum
for the next year, and trade off some old books to each other. The woman's
daughter was a bossy little thing, but we managed to make it through the day.
I excused myself to go to the rest room and when I returned found that the mom
had given the children Cheesy Crackers. I knew that only meant trouble for
my children, but didn't say what I wanted to the mom, but did mention to my
children that they knew what it would do to them. Not 15 minutes went by
that my son had his reaction. He got his usual attitude and said a cuss
word or two to his sister, and sure enough she said a few back. I tried to
tell the other mother about our diet again, she apologized for handing out the
crackers, yet a few days later I found that she had instigated to the group to
have us removed. Therefore learning again, just how unforgiving some in
society really are. Personally I feel she and her hyper daughter could
have used this program too, as she also has a son so out of control that he
couldn't even live with her. But I guess we lost our chance to help them,
due to her uneducated ways, and just not willing to hear. I keep praying
that this diary will reach others and help them understand, that just a few
orange crackers has enough dye in it, to harm their children in ways they never
thought of.
July
We moved into our new bookstore in a quiet quaint little town. We felt good
about it. Although our diet was still suffering due to the lack of a decent
kitchen. We did our best and stayed far away from dye, preservatives and
additives as much as possible. We did eat out a lot, however we tried to stay
true to the menu approved for us. All was going well until my son started eating
red hots, blue gum and candy from the town kids.
One hassle after another in this town has made us almost despise living here, so we moved to Ohio to be near our family. So far, my son is doing great, and we are happy!! :))
